This estate has been in operation under the Patre family since 1920, being passed down from grandfather, to father to son. While initially the son, Ashok, continued with traditional farming practices, he has since spent many years travelling to origin countries, visiting well-known farms and taking from the best of their practices and incorporating it into his operation at Pearl Mountain. For all intents and purposes Ratnagiri Estate is an organic/biodynamic farm and also maintains official Rainforest Alliance Certification. The estate is a lush shaded environment with 3 stories of shade. It is home to over 48 recorded bird populations, monkeys, leopards, wild boar, tigers, mongoose and - on occasion - elephants. The rich biodiversity demands that Ashok and his family have an approach to farming which places ecology and harmony with the environment at the forefront. This is a world class farm, truly one of the leading in India and a great example of Olam and the farmer working together to engineer excellence
Ethical Sourcing Policy - Statement
Here at the source coffee co, we are committed to ensuring we champion sustainable and ethical business practices.
We do this by addressing fair working conditions, product safety, fair competition and reducing the impact of our product on the environment. We only use rainforest alliance certified produce, and a stringent examination of all our green bean suppliers takes place before we enter into a partnership. They will be asked to provide evidence of fair working conditions and relationships in their origins.
At our end, we minimise packaging in all possible areas – wholesale coffee is shipped in re-usable containers. In our coffee bar, we urge customers to purchase and use re-usable coffee cups to replace the one use variety. Even our coffee grounds are recycled, local avid gardeners are encouraged to come and collect them and use at home.
